Basketball Injuries

The most common injuries in basketball include sprains, strains, and fractures, usually of the ankle [6]. Other common injuries include contusions, groin injuries, Achilles tendon ruptures, hip injuries, knee cartilage injuries, ACL ruptures, meniscal injuries, patellar tendon tears, shoulder instability, spinal disc herniations, and lumbar sprains and tears [7]. Concussions are also common in basketball, caused by player-to-player contact or player-to-surface contact [6]. After initial injury, it is essential to begin treatment protocols to prevent risk of further injury or subsequent recurring injury, proving the necessity of proper education for coaches and prevention programs for athletes.
